Announces The Creation of the Howard T. Short and Burdette Augsburger scholarship

The 2010 application process is open through April 15, 2010

Columbus – The Legacy Fund of The Columbus Foundation has announced the creation of the Howard T. Short and Burdette Augusburger Scholarship.  The scholarship was created through a generous bequest to The Legacy Fund and is a tribute to the life and legacy of Howard Short and Burdette Augusbuger.

The Howard T. Short and Burdette Augusburger Scholarship is dedicated to students who have contributed to the GLBT community through strong personal character, leadership and service.

“The Legacy Fund is honored to have been entrusted with this gift that will help inspire the next generation of GLBT leadership in central Ohio,” said Susan White, The Legacy Fund Co-chair. “The generosity of Howard and Burdette will have a lasting legacy on our community.”

Scholarships are open to gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered students pursuing a post-secondary education at a central Ohio (Franklin and contiguous counties) college or university or Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio.  All applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.75.

This scholarship constitutes one of the largest gifts given to The Legacy Fund of the Columbus Foundation and will make studying at a central Ohio institution of higher education a financial reality for many GLBT students.

The Legacy Fund of The Columbus Foundation is proud to announce the establishment of  the Howard T. Short and Burdette Augsburger Scholarship Fund of the Legacy Fund.

This fund was established to benefit gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered students pursuing post-secondary education at a Central Ohio college or university or Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio.

We are currently accepting applications for the 2010 cycle.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Candidate must have at least a 2.75 grade point average

After 30 years of service to the GLBT community, the Legacy Fund of the Columbus Foundation honors Lynn Greer.

Greer has long been a driving force behind the GLBT equal rights movement. Her relentless pursuit for equality is to be commended and celebrated. Lynn’s tenacity and devotion to the central Ohio GLBT and allied community, and across the country, will continue to have resonance for many years.

The Legacy Fund of the Columbus Foundation would like to invite the community to help celebrate the friendship, accomplishments and legacy of Lynn Greer at a tribute ceremony and reception on Tuesday, May 25 at the Columbus Foundation beginning at 5:30 p.m.
